Raj Kapoor was the heir of famous star Prithviraj Kapoor, who performed both in the movie and in the theatre. After apprenticing in the Bollywood production workrooms of the 1940s, 24-year-old Raj Kapoor created, directed, and starred in Aag (1948), with his fresh corporation, RK Films. His subsequent creation, Barsaat (1949), was a smashing hit. In 1951, he also created, directed, and acted in Awaara (1951), which was also a blockbuster, and starred Nargis, who had performed in Aag and Barsaat. Awaara too earned widespread recognition in Russia, where the film and numbers were translated into Russian.
